The 'original' colour of the Chinese Hamster in the wild is dark brown.

Currently there is only the original Agouti colour of the Chinese Hamster, although white Chinese Hamsters do sometimes occur in Dominant Spot lines but has not been inherited or established.

Agouti means that the hamster has the original wild markings - that is the coat is a darker colour at the roots (undercolour) than on the top, the belly is off-white and the hamster has a darker line down the centre of the back (dorsal stripe).

Normal The normal colour is brown with a dark brown with a dark dorsal stripe running down the centre of the back. It has an ivory belly, black eyes and grey ears.
