The Dark Eared White mutation in the Syrian Hamster occurred in 1952 in the USA. The Dark Eared White is pure white on the back, sides and belly and has bright red eyes but dark grey ears. Often youngsters have very pale ears but the ears become darker with age.

The Dark Eared White can be combined with any coat type to produce Long Haired Dark Eared White, Satin Dark Eared White, etc. Satin Dark Eared Whites tend to look slightly "yellow". It is possible to have Dark Eared White with a white pattern but obviously the pattern will not be visible.

For the Show Bench the Dark Eared White hamster should be free from any staining on the white coat and the ears should be as dark as possible.
